Rich Holley, commander of the Gretna American Legion Hall, holds a framed pictorial from Anne Koch. It honors Harold Mowinkel who was killed while fighting in World War II and is buried in France. He is one of three Gretna residents who died in battle. The others are Leonard Conley and Matthew Alexander.

German exchange students

This is the second time Gretna High School hosted a group of German high school students in an exchange program. In October 2007, 16 German students stayed in Gretna for three weeks and then GHS students returned the favor and traveled to Germany the following summer.
